On p 180 of Tim Schmidt’s Central Glass Works he shows a look-a-like pattern by Tiffin that (says he) “resembles many Central Glass patterns including an almost exact match for the David pattern.” I couldn’t find the David etch online.

I leafed through Page and Frederiksen’s Tiffin is Forever, looking for their pattern. On page 46 I came across a similar etch that they call Coronada. There may be others, I didn’t look further. I didn’t see it online either.

What interested me the most was that these etches also like very close to Fry’s DE 107 (says I). I have had various pieces with this etch and have always assumed that they came from Fry.

So I pulled the pieces that I currently have with these look alike etches. I have great difficulty recognizing the blanks when they are the smaller stems. Looking from left to right in the group photo I am assuming/wondering that the middle stem is from Fry. Looking at the furthest piece on the right, I’m wondering if the shape matches the sherbert on page 79 of The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Fry Glassware. I can’t quite tell if the stem is the same. Although you can’t tell from the photos, these etches on these two pieces are most alike (taking into consideration the different shapes). The detail of the other piece’s etch (on the far left) under my magnifying glass, are slightly different, not as finely done. I do not know the origin of this blank.

I have posted a query on the Elegant and Everyday Glass Forum, where far more knowledgeable folks than I will hopefully be able to shed some light on these stems.

<fb:like href="https://grannysglasses.com/?p=2042" send="true" layout="standard" width="450" show_faces="true" font="arial" action="like" colorscheme="light"></fb:like>

A review of some books reinforces the observation that it is not enough to know etches, you must know your …

[1
190,189,188
post-2042","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-etched-glass","tag-look-a-likes","tag-unknown-etches
["GET
