{"id":5675,"date":"2020-12-18T09:46:17","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T14:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/?p=5675"},"modified":"2020-12-18T09:46:17","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T14:46:17","slug":"boston-sandwich-bee-and-wheat-goblet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/?p=5675","title":{"rendered":"Boston &#038; Sandwich Bee and Wheat Goblet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/?attachment_id=5678\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5678\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-5678\" src=\"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092558-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092558-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092558-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092558-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092558-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092558-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/a>I have owned a set of five of these goblets for quite a number of years.\u00a0 They are among my most treasured stems and I have never even used them.\u00a0 It is hard to describe how gorgeous they are, photos do not do them justice.<\/p>\n<p>I had never been able to identify them.\u00a0 I even wrote to a few European glass specialists to determine if they could have been made in England or France.<\/p>\n<p>Recently I was thrilled when someone posted an example of their own stem on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/162892153902132\">Glass made between 1914-1929<\/a> Facebook Group.\u00a0 The pattern is not exactly the same but the elements are the same.<a href=\"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/?attachment_id=5676\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5676\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5676\" src=\"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092523-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092523-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092523-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092523-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092523-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/grannysglasses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_20201214_092523-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A respondent on the site indicated that these stems were most likely made by the Boston &amp; Sandwich Glass Company.\u00a0 The pattern is called Bee and Wheat.<\/p>\n<p>Although I have been to the Sandwich Glass Museum, I didn&#8217;t recall much about this particular company.\u00a0 Their is some interesting information on the Museum&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/sandwichglassmuseum.org\/history\/\">website<\/a> about its history.<\/p>\n<p>A listing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worthpoint.com\/worthopedia\/1870-boston-sandwich-bee-wheat-1795798166\">Worthpoint<\/a> provided some additional anecdotal information:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These Boston &amp; Sandwich spool stem goblets, blown between 1870 &amp; 1887, were individually hand engraved by Cape Cod glassmen descended from the highly skilled German engravers that old Deming Jarves imported to work in his factory.
