Hobstar, Pressed Glass, Water Goblet

Libbey’s pieces that are signed with its cursive ‘L’ are easy to identify.  However I rarely pick up any pieces by Libbey.  These goblets aren’t really my thing, but they do have a certain appeal.  They are a solid, weighty in the hand, attractive glass.

I have no idea how old these pieces are, but they are not vintage.

Libbey is still in business and own a number of brands –   https://libbey.com/brand-family/

Hobstar pieces are still available to purchase, although I do not see the goblets on their web site.

Barware, Red Roses, Transferware, Water Goblet

Over the years I have run across this pattern – usually a single glass at a time, and generally cocktail glasses.  I have often thought that I would like to have a set of four at least.

So when I came across these four water goblets I snatched them up.  I don’t know why they are so appealing – they just are.  I think they would be pretty on a summer patio table with lemonade or ice tea in them.

I thought it would be a snap to identify them, but I had to turn to the Vintage Glass Identification Facebook Group for help.  Once I had a name I saw that these pieces were also made with yellow roses.

I suspect they were made between the 1950s and 1980s, but don’t really know for sure.

Coloured Glass, Tumbler

Libbey blue tumblerLast weekend I was scoping out yard sales in our neighbourhood.  The lady of the household was desperate to get rid of stuff so she sold me 13 of these glasses for $1.00.

Although my IKEA tumblers never break and are easy to get your hands in and out of, I decided that it is time for a change!  These pretty tumblers also match our blue Aynsley dishes that we use daily.

I like them as they have an optic that adds interest to the glass.

They are marked with Libbey’s cursive ‘L’.  Don’t know how old they are – 1980s maybe.

Libbey in, IKEA out!
