All of my information comes from the book….The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Heisey Glass: 1925-1938 by Neila Bredehoft (published 1986) .  Ms. Bredehoft  says that Heisey began producing baskets circa 1912 and first called them ‘basket vases’ (now simply called ‘baskets’).

Most were designed to hold flowers although a few were fruit containers.

The production of baskets appears to have ceased in 1933.

This particular eight inch basket is called “Plain Hexagon” by researchers and has the Number 462 as a reference.  I assume this is the blank or shape number.  It was used for only a few Heisey cuttings. I don’t know if this cut has a name.  It has butterflies, flowers and ferns or grasses.

It is pretty, although I really only picked it up at a recent auction because I recognized the Heisey mark.  When I get organized, it goes up on the seller’s block!
