Spread the love

I have always wanted to own one of these goblets but generally the prices are too steep.  Came across a pair on ebay at a price I could live with.

I have long wondered why they always seem to be so expensive.  When I was travelling in the U.S. in July I visited the lovely Margaret Lane Antiques shop in New Concord, Ohio.

The owner, Lynn Welker, is a very knowledgeable dealer.  He specializes in Cambridge Glass but had quite a number of Heisey pieces as well as others from other companies.

I asked him why these stems seem so costly.  After all they are fairly plain.  His response was the colour.  I gather Heisey didn’t make alot of pieces in the cobalt and people like this colour.  He also told me that Heisey make few coloured pieces with cuttings and that those pieces tend to be costly when found.

The stems are larger than I had expected and they do make a statement.  I have a cabinet in my living room and most pieces are in colour.  Almost everyone sees and comments on the cobalt stems first.  The rest are various shades of pink, amber, yellow, and Heisey’s Zircon.  The cobalt just pops!
