I have long wanted to acquire a spooner.  Don’t know why, just have.  At least this is what I am assuming that this is (could actually be a water goblet for all I know). It came in a box lot from my guy’s last auction find.  I was very pleased to see it.

This is how The Encyclopedia of Glass (Mark Pickvet) defines a spooner or spoon holder:

A tall cylindrically-shaped short-stemmed glass vessel, with or without handles, used for holding dessert spoons vertically.  Spooners often resemble short-stemmed goblets, and/or vases, and were popular in pressed glass table sets of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.”

I have been trying to identify its provenance, with no luck, but I have come across some interesting sites online that I thought I’d pass on. Quality Pattern Glass has an online slide show with a number of pretty pieces identified.
