My obsession with my Cambridge Glass Rams Head Bowls, and my lion collection, has me looking for animals in glass.

My husband and I drove more than 3,500 kilometers recently out to Atlantic Canada.  I hardly bought a thing, but picked up this set less than an hour and a half from home!

I really like this set.  These old Hobbs & Brockunier pieces are so interesting.

This is pattern number 79 – Goat Head.  Introduced 1868.

Unfortunately the lid to the sugar bowl is missing.  There is a goat head finial on the lid, which would have been cool to find.

This is a huge sugar bowl – good for a big sweet loving family!

This covered dish was manufactured by Hobbs, Brockunier & Company of Wheeling, West Virginia, sometime in the 1800s. The pattern was introduced in 1876.

This is pattern no. 76 and it has a number of more commonly known aliases: Hobbs’ Centennial, Viking, Bearded Head, Bearded Prophet, and Old Man of the Mountain(s).

The piece stands approximately 6 1/4 inches from the table top to the top of the helmet. The diameter of the opening is 5 inches. I don’t know if this is a comport/compote, butter dish or cheese dish.

I gather from my handy dandy book – American Pattern Glass Table Sets by Cathy and Gene Florence – that pieces in this pattern include a butter dish, sugar with lid, creamer, spooner and celery vase.

The finial has the face on both sides and the feet are also decorated with the face.  Pretty neat piece!

Hobb Brockunier Flamingo Habitat Compote (4)I have long wanted a piece of glass with this acid etch.  I was almost seduced by a set of water goblets on ebay, but they were more than I wanted to pay.

Hobbs and Brockunier Glass was located in Wheeling, West Virginia.  This piece was introduced in 1880 and was in production until 1890.

The pattern was produced through the acid etching technique.  Very smooth surface.

I really like the stem – nice and solid.  Lovely piece.
