I have sorely neglected my little blog. It is difficult to focus on a glass obsession, which is an indoor hobby, when the garden is in bloom and needs soooooo much work.
I see while re-reading the older post that I was mulling over ‘collection’ sizes. I still don’t know what it is, but I think it is definitely more than three!
Currently I only have three powder jars – this one, by Jeannette as well, my Scottie and my L.E. Smith jar. The elephants and donkey jars were purchased. So… my story is that I no longer have a collection, just random pieces.
I have seen this one in the marigold as well. It is a cute little thing.

now when an assortment of similar items becomes a collection. Is it when you have three, or is it more than five, of something similar?
I currently have, if I am recalling correctly, four covered powder jars. Two elephant jars, a Scottie jar and now this donkey jar. This piece, like the Scottie jar, was made by the Jeannette Glass Company of Jeannette, New York . It is a fairly common piece that is also found in pink. I read online at the K and M Antique Store website that some donkey jars have been found with original labels indicating that they held Spicy Apple Blossom Body Powder from Landers Distributors of New York.

I almost bought the most marvelous pink bull dog powder jar, likely “Butch” made by L.E. Smith, on my recent travels, but its tail was chipped and I passed. I have also owned a pretty amber French poodle jar in the past as well. I sold it, and have somewhat regretted it since.
I don’t think this is a collection yet. Maybe six pieces is a collection. I actually happen to like Scotties and donkeys and deliberately set out to purchase these two pieces to keep indefinitely. In fact, my daughter and I are off to a local donkey sanctuary today for a visit, if it doesn’t rain.
The elephant jars are more expendable – poor things.
I wandered into a Value Village recently. This creamer was tucked away at the back of a shelf and at first I couldn’t see the etch, but the shape was intriguing. I really like the solidity of the stem.
