I think I finally ended up giving the creamer and sugar away.  Certainly couldn’t sell it.  Well, still been a good lesson for me.  I am now ruthless about looking for condition flaws.  Doesn’t mean I won’t buy something, but at least I know upfront if there is any damage.

Bought this set of candle holders in the Nerva line.  The scrollwork is very attractive.  Don’t know the name of the cutting.

Paden City NervaI learned, well…relearned…a lesson after buying these pieces at a local thrift shop.  DON’T BUY GLASS WITHOUT YOUR SPECTACLES!!!!!  Got home to find that someone has very carefully glued a broken foot back on the creamer.  Didn’t notice as I can’t see close-up any more and my glasses were well protected in my car!  Oh well.

This is Paden City’s Nerva line with silver overlay perhaps applied by Lotus.  Lots of pretty pieces in this line and some in red as well.

Bows, Creamer, Floral, June, Pink, Plate Etched, Wine Glass, Yellow Glass

Was up in St. Jacobs at the St. Jacobs Antique Market a couple weekends ago and came across a quartet of these pretty stems.  They are 3 ounce wine glasses.

The etch is #279 – June and the line is #5098 (patented in 1928).  A copy of the patent is available for review in the gallery of the Elegant and Everyday Glass Forum.

The depth of the etch is interesting.  Three of the glasses are lightly etched and the fourth shows much heavier etching.  I have tried to show this in the images.  The larger photo has the lighter etching.

Such a pretty yellow.

I had the sugar at one point but sold it.  June is a very pretty etch.  This is in pink and it comes in blue, two yellows and clear as well.  This etch is similar to another of Fostoria’s patterns – Romance.  I gather that the pink and blue are the most popular colours for collectors.  This is the only piece I have of this etch.  Pretty, very romantic.

I don’t usually pick up EAPG pieces but I was taken by the hands.  I thought they were pretty cool.

Given the hands, it wasn’t too difficult to track down the provenance of this creamer.

From the website of the Early American Pattern Glass Society I learned that this piece was made by Adams & Company  of Pittsburgh which operated from 1861-1891.  This line was introduced in 1887.

While ‘Cottage’ is the original name, the line is also known by: ‘Dinner Bell’; and, ‘Fine Cut Band’.

Given that this piece is more than 120 years old I am astonished by its condition.  No chips or nicks – just some surface scratching.
