I think I finally ended up giving the creamer and sugar away.  Certainly couldn’t sell it.  Well, still been a good lesson for me.  I am now ruthless about looking for condition flaws.  Doesn’t mean I won’t buy something, but at least I know upfront if there is any damage.

Bought this set of candle holders in the Nerva line.  The scrollwork is very attractive.  Don’t know the name of the cutting.

Paden City NervaI learned, well…relearned…a lesson after buying these pieces at a local thrift shop.  DON’T BUY GLASS WITHOUT YOUR SPECTACLES!!!!!  Got home to find that someone has very carefully glued a broken foot back on the creamer.  Didn’t notice as I can’t see close-up any more and my glasses were well protected in my car!  Oh well.

This is Paden City’s Nerva line with silver overlay perhaps applied by Lotus.  Lots of pretty pieces in this line and some in red as well.

Over the years I have amassed a little collection of Pie Crust pieces.  I guess I have not thought to post the photos.

This one is decorated with Hughes’ Corn flower cutting.  I have two of them!  Not deliberately, but this is evidence of having too many pieces of glass that you forget what you have!

I don’t know what it is about these pieces that I find so appealing.  Could be the peg legs, or the deceptively attractive banding.  The designs are simple, yet quite appealing.

This silver overlay on this piece is in perfect condition.  I haven’t been able to identify it, but it obviously has a daffodil theme going on.

This three part bowl/dish has a very dainty etch/engraving (I never know what to call these designs, best do some research).  It has a real pretty look to it.Imperial Pie Crust relish dish (2)

Updated post – December 4, 2012

I was scrolling through the Gallery of the Elegant and Everyday Glass Forum looking to ID an etch I am going to post soon when I came across a very similar bowl (different etch).  I was so pleased to see that my bowl is older than I thought – mid 1920s-1945.  Very exciting to be able to identify a piece.  I actually never thought I would.

Original post – November 23, 2012:

I bought this little bowl sometime ago.  It was 75 cents.  I have to admit that I have it displayed in a dark corner of the basement.  I’ve ignored it, in fact I hadn’t washed it in ages and was surprised when I did – I thought it had a yellowish tinge.  Turns out it was dust!

When I REALLY looked at this piece I saw that it actually has some intriguing features.  The feet and the banding (for the lack of a better word) make it very interesting.

The etch is pretty, although not spectacular, but the shape is very interesting.  No idea which company made it.

I guess I should move it out of the basement.

I went to an auction at McGregors recently and picked up a few lots.  I had seen this relish dish a number of times and always thought “Meh!”  But the silver overlay caught my eye.  I like oak trees and as a kid thought that finding an acorn was something to be celebrated.  Mostly maples near my childhood home.

I couldn’t figure out who had made it so I turned to the Facebook group – Vintage Glass Identification for help.  This is a great group of folks and I very often get an ID when I am stumped.  I had the answer very quickly.

Collectors Weekly had a little bit of information on this line in the article Vintage Imperial Glass.

“Around the same time as the introduction of Candlewick, Imperial began producing      a line that would become almost as successful—Cape Cod. Newton secured a deal        with Quaker Oats to distribute No. 160 in the Cape Cod line as giveaway items—          many of these pieces are highly desirable today.”

There appears to have been quite a number of items produced in the line and you can find some of the patents in the gallery of the Elegant and Everyday Glass Forum.  Looks like the pieces were produced in the 1930s-1950s.

I think that the silver overlay could be the work of Lotus Glass.  This 2007 article by Barbara Wyrick in the references the name “Acorn and Oak Leaf” pattern by Lotus.  I can’t seem to find online images so I have purchased the book Lotus: Depression Glass And Far Beyond by Dean Six to see if I can verify the pattern.  The book hasn’t yet arrived but I am looking forward to seeing the pretty patterns by Lotus.  I have a number of pieces with overlay that I haven’t been able to attribute and maybe this reference guide will help.
