From an ebay guide – http://reviews.ebay.com/VALLERYSTHAL-THE-BEST-IN-MILKGLASS?ugid=10000000012509127 –“Vallerysthal (Societe des verreries de Plaine-de-Walsch et Vallerysthal) originated in Lorraine (border of France & Germany) in the year 1836. When you think milkglass, butter dishes, covered dishes. There is no name more synonymous, esteemed or desired than “Vallerysthal”, purely for their great detailed works of animal covered dishes & trinkets.”
I bought this for fifty cents at a thrift shop. Didn’t know what it was. I don’t collect milk glass, although of course I have a few pieces, but the colour was so appealing. Turns out is is the bottom half of a pineapple footed bowl. I keep it hanging around as I figure some day I will sell it to someone who has broken the lid of their bowl…..or maybe I should look for a lid myself…well if I can find one for fifty cents!
