Blue Blue My World is Blue.  Isn’t Johnny Mathis great?

Unknown Blue Hobnail (1)Anyway my hubby picked up this pretty blue vase at a local flea market.  He was told that it was Nova Scotia glass.  I have to admit that I was doubtful.

As it turns out it was identified on the wonderful Elegant and Everyday Glass Forum.  it is a ’30s piece of Fenton.  I was told that it was originally a bowl from line #844 which was swung and hand shaped into this vase, line #847.IMG_4894

The colours and opalescence are  very pretty, even if it WAS made in West Virginia and not Nova Scotia!

Fostoria Water Goblet with Woodland Plate Etch

Fostoria Woodland (1)I picked up these glasses at Antiques on the Ridge, a lovely shop in Ridgeway, Ontario.  I also bought a set of unknown, at least to me stems, which I think are Baccarat, but haven’t yet identified.  It isn’t all that usual to find so many pieces of etched glassware in this part of the world, and I was pleased to find these pieces.

The etch is#264 – Woodland.  It is quite lovely, although I can’t figure out what kind of flowers are represented.  I like the scrolls and although the line – #660 – isn’t fancy, the elongated scrolls enhance the fairly plain shape.

According to Replacements.com these glasses were likely manufactured from 1922-1928.

Several years ago I was fortunate to be able to visit the Fostoria Glass Museum in Moundsville, West Virginia.  If you ever have a chance to go, it is well worth the visit.  So many beautiful items and collections!  Check out its history and location at the website of the Fostoria Glass Society of America.

 

 

 

Northwood Custard – Louis XV Pattern

Northwood Louis XV (1)Here’s another piece of early custard glass made by Northwood.  I have seen it referred to as a sauce bowl or berry dish.  The pattern is the regal sounding Louis XV Pattern.

My handy dandy custard guide – The Encyclopedia of Victorian Colored Pattern Glass, Book 4: Custard Glass from A to Z by William Heacock – indicates that Northwood started producing this pattern in 1898.  It was also made in emerald green with gold.

The book has photos of a number of pieces including a pitcher, butter dish, sugar and creamer, etc.

Very fancy!
