L.E. Smith is a long-time American company (100+ plus) that, I gather, is well-known for its pressed glass.  I have seen this compote identified as their piece, but have not substantiated it through more than one source.  I have a number of compotes – with and without lids – in a variety of colours.  I use them for seashells, pine cones, whatever.  I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the exact piece in blue, but wouldn’t want to bet money on it.  Don’t know how old it is,  – 40s/’50s?  perhaps.  Nice if someone could tell me.  Not hard to find these pieces.  It is pretty for the fall colour displays.  I put fall leaves in this one around Thanksgiving.  I photographed the lid separately to show the lacy edging.
