This is a smaller hen on nest. I don’t think it’s a salt cellar, I imagine it’s too big….but it’s not a full sized hen. I don’t know anything about its provenance, but it is a cute thing and fills out my pseudo-collection. Can’t even recall where i bought I like having it hanging around my white book shelf.

This is yet another example of my non-collection of hens on nests. Very pretty. I gather that Indiana Glass made these in clear, olive, pink, ruby flash, and milkglass, as well as in the Carnival colours.
From Indiana Glass “The carnival glass Hens or Hen on a Nest were made by Indiana Glass in the 70’s. These were made in all three of the carnival glass colors, blue, gold and lime green carnival glass. Indiana Glass made their Hens for 70 plus yerars. According to Indiana Hon collectors, the can be found in 80 different colors. The above three are the only carnival glass version.“ See this site for photos of the three colours.
I have this, along with my other hens, on a low white bookcase in our front window. Very pretty.

Isn’t this cute?
I have a number of hens, for A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y no reason at all. Started with an accidental purchase and then of course I had to round out the display. I bought this locally – at an auction I think. I don’t know much about this type of glass. You can’t tell from the photo, but there’s a transluscence in certain spots.
The number four, 
or the letter “h” is marked on the top and bottom. No idea, yet, what that means. Hope someone else does.
I am NOT NOT NOT buying any more hens on nests (although I don’t have a green one yet). If I see a cheap one in person, I might be tempted. But….shipping and handling costs aren’t appealing.
