Crystal, European Crystal, Floral Cutting, German Crystal, Ice Tea, Meissen

I am not a big collector of European glass but these two pieces were too pretty to pass up.  Picked them up in Florida recently.

Meissen is famous for its long history of making items in porcelain.  I don’t know when they starting producing in crystal, but this manufacturing line would appear secondary to the porcelain.

These glasses are marked with the letter ‘M’ and one has a Meissen gold label on its base.

I have been advised that these are the ice teas, but they would look beautiful with any beverage.

Luckily this has been identified by ‘someone in the know’ as Bohemia Crystal in the Etoile pattern.  Replacements also shows this stem in this blank – yippie!

I am pleased to have the mystery solved (March 23, 2015).

I have various pieces of this etch including a decanter.  In the replacements.com database the blank is different.  All of my pieces have this stem.008

This piece is likely a sherry glass or cordial.  It’s not my favourite pattern, but I guess it’s pretty enough.

Edinburgh Crystal – Appin Cut (I think)

Edinburgh Crystal (5)I bought six of these pretty glasses ages ago here in Town at Under the Toadstool (great place!).  I was surprised to find that I hadn’t posted them.  They are marked “MADE IN Edinburgh SCOTLAND” and I think the pattern is called Appin.

I struggle with the cut patterns, such small differences between some patterns!  Replacements.com shows the pattern, but not this shape.  I’ve seen this shape referred to, in other sites, as a claret, but I don’t really know for sure.  Replacements dates them 1981-1987.

They have a surprising weight to them, a very brilliant shine and a pretty ring when pinged.  Beautiful pieces.
