Decanter, Etched, Floral, Gold, Paden City, Reverse Etch, Spring Orchard
Update to my post of March 20, 2014…….I gather that the line is actually #211 – Spire. I gather there is a lack of evidence to validate the line number, but that it is commonly assumed, by folks who are in the know, that this is #211, despite what my text indicates.
—————————————-My handy dandy Paden City reference tells me that this is a reverse etch that includes daisies and swallows. I can’t determine what a ‘reverse etch’ actually is! My not so handy dandy Glass Dictionary doesn’t have any information. I’ll have to poke around the ‘net when I have more time.
In any event, the etch is quite deep. The cordials are the #991 Penny Line blank. The decanter is from the #215 Glades line. The piece are gold encrusted. I think that the gold on these pieces is likely faded from years of washing. It is intact, but I imagine it was originally brighter. Still very pretty.
I had a piece of Spring Orchard, a decanter from a different line, that I sold. I was somewhat sorry as it was pretty, and different. Must be that darned unknown reverse etching! I think I may admire these for awhile.
Don’t know how old they are. Paden City closed its doors in 1951. So they are at least older than I am. So…….they are definitely vintage!
