I haven’t posted in a very long time.  Not because I haven’t acquired new stuff, but life has just gotten busy and the blog fell to the bottom of the priority list.

This piece deserves to be highlighted.

Over the years I have owned a number of pieces with ‘Willow’ etches, primarily from Fostoria.  Each time I sell a piece I wonder if I REALLY wanted to do that.  I have a large collection of blue and white porcelain willow dinnerware from different countries and manufacturers and time frames.  I mix and match them when having company and always have thought that the etched glass would be great to have on the table.  But I keep on selling it.

This is my first Cambridge ‘Willow’ #715 etch (on a mayonnaise dish).  Isn’t it gorgeous?

Colored Glass, Coloured Glass, Mayonnaise Dish

It has been a very long time since I have posted on this blog.  In the interim I have had a trip to the east coast of Canada and made a number of short trips.  Along the way I have picked up a few new things.  Not alot as I am trying to cut back on my inventory for my shops as well as for my own collections.

Nonetheless I still keep my peepers peeped.

I have long sold the bowl and ladle combo.  Imagine my surprise when I saw the same bowl, this time with the underplate, in a Salvation Army thrift shop in my hometown of Fort Erie.  No ladle this time.

I always wonder how pieces end up where they do.

Cambridge Helio Bowl (1)

This weekend we went out to Orono where the annual antiques fair was held.  I picked up a number of pieces including this pretty opaque purple (Cambridge called it Helio) dish.  I was very surprised to find my first piece of Helio in this little Ontario town.  I asked the vendor if she recalled where she had found it, but she did not.

I have only seen Helio online.  I gather that there are variations in the tone of purple.  This is a fairly dark piece.  I read in the reference book – Colors in Cambridge Glass II – that Helio was introduced in January 1923 and was likely only produced for no more than two years.

I believe this set to be the mayonnaise, with ladle, from line #169.

Bowl, Empress, Mayonnaise Dish, Silver Overlay

Heisey Empress with Silver Overlay (4)I picked this piece up in Florida (I think).  For some reason I thought it was a piece of New Martinsville Line #4200 Radiance.  But of course it is Heisey’s Empress blank.

This is what Neila Bredehoft said in her book The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Heisey Glass 1925-1938:

“Dates:  1930-1938

Colors:  Moongleam, flamingo, sahara, alexandrite, tangerine, cobalt, marigold

Widely used for Heisey etches and cuttings”

Interesting comment – “Early Heisey ads also referred to it as “Lilies of France” pattern”

This piece is the 5 1/2 inch mayonnaise bowl.  Notice the dolphin feet.

The silver overlay is very pretty.Heisey Empress with Silver Overlay (3)
