IMG_0111I thought this was the funniest thing I’d seen in a long time.  I never tire of asking people what they think it was used for.

It’s a reproduction of McKee Glass Company’s Bottoms Up shot glass.  Neat, isn’t it?  Any beverage poured into the glass definitely has to be consumed in one sip – no putting it down until then!

I didn’t know anything about it until after I bought it and tried to track down the piece’s history.  Came across this interesting article from Real or Repro: Your Online Source for Identifying Fakes or Reproductions.  Turns out that my piece does not have the requisite patent number and is a reproduction of the McKee pieces.IMG_0105

I often wonder where reproductions were made and how old they are.

Nonetheless I have a rich ruby red conversation piece!

Coloured Glass, Dinner Plate, Madrid, Reproduction

I’ve posted a number of pieces of Federal Glass’ Madrid pattern.  I’m comfortable that those pieces are all Depression era originals.Federal Madrid Repro (2)

However these plates are definitely reproductions.  The pattern is similar, but not quite right.  The quality of the photo precludes pointing out the flaws. I pulled out my Warman’s Depression Glass Guide and could see where the pattern just doesn’t align.

Nonetheless, the colour is very pretty.  My guy bought these at an auction. Federal Madrid Repro The auctioneer was honest and told him that they were repros.  But he liked the colour too.
