My long suffering spouse and I made a trip to Waterloo this past week.  I stopped into one of my favourite antique stores – St. Jacob’s Antiques Market –  and was surprised to find a set of six of these beautiful tumblers.

I recognized the Balda etch – #410 and knew that these were made by Central Glass Works of Wheeling, West Virginia.

My handy dandy book – Cetnral Glass Works: the Depression Era by Tim Schmidt provided the line #1428.  According to Schmidt this line was produced in the late 1920s/early 1930s.

The colour is refered to an ‘orchid tints’.

Lovely set of eight ounce tumblers.

Heisey Orchid Salad Bowl (2)I have read that Orchid was Heisey’s most popular etch.  While it is beautiful, I think that the Belvedere etch is likely my favourite (so far).

This bowl is big and heavy and has such a pretty shape and detailing.  I used to have water goblets with the Orchid etch.  I bet a table of this glass would be lovely.  I guess I will have to mix it up!Heisey Orchid Salad Bowl (1)

What a gorgeous stem!  I have shown a couple Heisey Orchid Pieces, but this is the first water goblet I’ve had.  This is a very majestic blank and etch.  I like my Heisey glass very much.  I have four of the water goblets.  Don’t know if I will use them, or sell them down the road.  I had parfaits some time ago, but sold them online.   If I sell them, they have to go to an appreciative home – after all they are gorgeous pieces!
