Coloured Glass, Compote, Fenton, Pressed Glass, Red Glass, Toyko
I love this deep, rich ruby colour. When I saw it I thought it was Fenton’s Eye Winker pattern. As it turns out the pattern name is called “Tokyo”.
I am puzzled about the name. I always wonder how names are chosen. If you look at the pattern, it looks like part of the design is a sun. Is this the “Rising Sun” of the East perhaps?
The compote is signed “Fenton” in the oval. There is no number beneath the mark, so I assume that the piece was made in the 1970s.
A pretty piece which doesn’t seem to be too common, although it was made in a couple other colours as well.
