Yippie – Vacation Tomorrow!

With the sound of rain beating against my window, and likely pounding down the height of the snow drifts, I am please to be dreaming of a trip to the sunny south for a wedding.

Off to Cuba again – lucky girl am I.  Travelling with my son and that will be fun to see him up close for a bit.  A very little bit, if he has anything to do with it

Likely no glass to see there, but I am bidding on a few pieces online.  So it will be a surprise if I win them, when I get home.

Ciao.

Needle Etch, Sherbert

Bryce Sherberts (4)I have these stems in the sherberts, and in a water goblet.  I’ll have to find the goblet image.

For the longest time I though that they were pieces of Bryce.  Recently I realized that the piece of paper on which I had written a Bryce blank line and the etch line, and carefully taped to one of the glasses, actually belonged to another stem!

The blank of the water goblet resembles a piece that I have often thought belonged to Fry.  Ballerina leg, medium-wide optic, DE 107 (on the other piece), or a lookalike.

The etch on these pieces has interesting details but lacks the attractiveness of what I consider more ‘polished’ patterns.  No pun, if there IS one, intended.

Bryce 355, Etch 321 (3)

In any event, obviously I don’t know anything about the pieces.  I think I have had them for a long time.  Maybe it is time to do some research.  But….my feeling is that they will remain a mystery.

Westmoreland Milk Glass Vase – Beaded Grape – Line 1884

Westmoreland vase (4)Sometimes I forget that I have hard copy glass references.  I was busily searching for the name of this pattern online, with no luck, when I had an aha moment.  Aha! I have a Westmoreland reference book.  Lo and behold there was my vase in living black and white.

This vase combines the grape details of Westmoreland’s popular Panel and Grape pattern (line 1881) and the beaded edge of the Beaded Edge (line 22) pattern. You can see the one edge in the photo.

It was likely manufactured in the 1950s or 1960s.

Pieces also came with coloured decorations.  I’ve not knowingly observed one in the flesh, but from the photos I have seen, I actually prefer the unpainted pieces like this one.
