Westmoreland Cat (2)What a great trip we had to Washington, D.C. and points in between.  I didn’t keep track of the thrift shops, antique shops and flea markets that we visited, but there were lots.  My guy is very patient.

I brought back more than the usual number of items and have lots of new (old) pieces to post.Westmoreland Cat (3)

I always look for the special piece that really peaks my interest (that’s affordable).  I didn’t find anything until yesterday at the very last shop we visited in Waterdown, New York.  It’s a beauty, but I am gong to try to identify it before it is posted.

In the interim, here’s a cute little cat on nest.  Made by Westmoreland CatWestmoreland, it has opalescent edges and ears.

Quite the sad expression on its little face.

I’ve posted the mark.  It was created by Westmoreland’s final owner, David Grossman.  The Grossman mark consists of the name Westmoreland encircling three vertical lines.  I know it’s hard to pick up the details in this photo.  This mark was used between 1983-1984, when the company closed.  So this little kitty is 30+ years old!

Soon to Be On the Road Again!

014 (posted)My guy and I love to travel in the U.S.  Like Canada, it is beautiful and big.  What i like about the States is that Americans truly celebrate their history.  It is documented and put out on display.  For whatever reason we Canadians are more reticent about our history.  Of course, Canada is not as old a nation as the U.S.

We take at least one road trip a year across the border.  Although we already spend two weeks driving around Florida in May, we are off this week to our ultimate destination of Washington, D.C.

We have never been to Washington  I am very much looking forward to visiting the places I have seen documented on the television and in print for so many years.

Of course, we will be making some antique stops along the way.  My guy was predicting that I would come home with 35 pieces of glass.  Seems like alot, but….never say never.017 (posted)

I have a few pieces of Heisey coming in the mail.  They should be here when we get home, so I should have lots to post, when the weather is awful again.  It is hard to do too much glass stuff when the garden beckons!

These photos have nothing to do with Heisey as far as I know.  These are photos of the glasses that “started it all”.  Just thought I’d decorate this post with them.  These beautiful glasses belonged to my mother-in-law and were the genesis of my collecting.  I thought I’d repost them.  They have never been identified.  They are delicate and the etch is quite oriental.  I’ve never seen the pattern replicated.  I don’t use these stems as I don’t want to damage them.  But wouldn’t it be great to find some in Washington?  If anyone knows anything about them, I’d love to hear.

Cordials, Needle Etch

Mary Lou's glass (posted)Some time ago I posted this stem that belongs to my pal Mary Lou from Thunder Bay.  It was the sole piece left from her deceased mom.

I have never had any luck identifying the piece.  The needle etch is not particularly remarkable in any way, nor is the blank/shape.  But of course she loves it and I would like to find additional pieces to give to her.

Now I like the needle etches, but of course cannot remember if I own them already, or if they look anything like this glass.Needle Etch on Cordial

I picked up two of these stems recently, thinking that they were a match to Mary Lou’s glass.  Of course they obviously are not!

Even if the blank was different, the etch is not similar, other than it is also a needle etch.

And….then I am trolling through photos and discover that I likely have this etch in a water goblet.  Can’t recall if the blank is the same.  Likely older pieces, but not for Mary Lou.  Additions to the unknown etch museum!
