Cocktail Glasses, Metalcraft, Morgantown, United Chromium

FarberwareI have seen these glasses around.  Some time ago I saw four in a Salvation Army. I didn’t buy them and I have regretted it ever since.  I saw these recently and decided to pick them up.

I thought that they were called Farberware.  But Farberware is the name of products made by the S.W. Farber Company.  Mr. Simon Farber had two brothers who had their own company called Farber Brothers.  They made glasses that are very similar to the ones shown here.  For awhile I thought they had been made by Farber Brothers.

But two very interesting guides on ebay – Farber Bros Vs. Farberware and Farber Bros Vs.United Chromium written by martinisandmore would lead me to believe that the metal pedestals of these glasses were made by United Chromium with the glass inserts by Morgantown.Farberware (6)

Farber Brothers used glass inserts by Cambridge Glass.

The interesting thing is that the inserts come off.  I don’t know the reasoning for that – perhaps to clean.  When I read that, I had to of course try to pull them apart. Hence the photo!

If you search the Internet for Farberware or Farber Brothers you will see lots of barware.  Some of it is quite attractive, although this isn’t something I would collect.

Cocktail Glasses, Needle Etch

Unknown Stem with Knot (2)I bought two of these pieces in Brighton at the auction house’s yard sale.  I thought that it would be easy to identify them, with the distinctive looking stem.

Replacements calls the shape #325 and the etch #325-6.  I only have one Bryce book and it doesn’t appear in that title.  So…who knows?

I think this a cocktail glass.  It has a medium optic and is very attractive.Unknown Stem with Knot

More stems for the Needle Etch museum!

Dresden Rose (2)To anyone reading this post – the best of 2013 to you.  Be healthy and happy.  There’s nothing else in life after all (except pretty glass – LOL!)

I’m starting off the new year with a recent online purchase.  They were so pretty I couldn’t resist them.  Bought them unidentified, but was able to chase down the provenance – Cambridge’s Dresden Rose etch.  Dresden Rose (3)

I am guessing, from looking at my book – – that this is Cambridge’s Pistachio Green tint.  I don’t know the age, but Replacements.com dates the etch as 1927-.

There are roses and other flowers represented in the etch.

A pretty glass with which to kick off the New Year.
