This piece was produced by Northwood in Wheeling, West Virginia in the early years of the twentieth century.

According to the Encyclopedia of Victorian Colored Pattern Glass, Book 4: Custard glass from A to Z by William Heacock:

“…sometimes stained with nutmeg brown, and sometimes simply trimmed in gold.  Some pieces have been found iridised with a pearl-like finish, causing word to spread that it was some form of rare “custard carnival”. ”

This piece has the nutmeg finish.  The colour varies depending on the light.  The first photo shows backlighting from sunshine.  The second photo is daytime room lighting and the last shows the effect of blacklight.

I always find it difficult to think of the age of pieces – over 100 years old – with no damage!
