Canadian, Candle, Floral

This is a two light candelabra with the Corn Flower pattern.  Corn Flower is very common locally since it is Canadian made.  When I was a teen I actually had a cedar hope chest and I collected Corn Flower for the chest.  You know I’ve never actually thought about that early interest in stemware.    Maybe my teen years were the beginning of my obsession!  The glasses are long gone – likely in at university dinner parties.  I’m not particularly interested in collecting Corn Flower, although I know that lots do.  It’s pretty but it is common and I like to look for items that you don’t see on peoples’ tables.  I rarely use this piece and likely should try hard to sell it.  Or at the very least, find another.

Cake plate, Floral

I think I bought this at a thrift shop – or at least this is the likeliest place.  I don’t know its provenance, but it looks like a Lancaster or Standard pattern.  I think it is a cake stand.  I like the detail on the stand.  Not my favourite, but I respect the workmanship.    The trouble with these places is the storage need.  I make a cake, maybe every two years.  In between I have to find a safe, large space to store the piece.  It may adorn another table in the not too distant future.  I’m always looking to free up space for new acquisitions!

Fry DE 107 “Jabot”

I had four or six of these and they were among the first pieces that I bought way back when.  I sold them awhile ago.  You just run out of room.  And…you come across pieces that you prefer.  Funny though….the pieces I seem to prefer just keep going up in cost!!!!!  Luckily I came across the photos recently.  These were small – cocktails or sherry I imagine, if I remember correctly.  I’ve seen this pattern with the name “Jabot”, but I have seen it frequently referred to as DE (deep etch) 107.  I think this line was produced in the first decade of the twentieth century, but I wouldn’t bet a quarter on it.

Glass companies changed owners and were bought out over time.  Fry had a relationship (too long to write about here) with Beaver Valley Glass.  Beaver Valley produced the most beautiful Geisha pattern.  I haven’t seen it often.  I was outbid on a mug at $55.00 or so.  Too rich for my blood.  But I’d love to own a piece.  I’ve only seen this pattern on the mug.  It would be gorgeous on stems.

I bid on a pitcher with DE 107 but the seller cancelled the sale because there were noticeable scratches and I didn’t take it.  I have to admit to being a wee bit sorry that I sold these as I like having the older pieces, but they were too small unless you use the teensy glasses, and I don’t.
