I wanted to see one of these vases in the ‘flesh’ ever since I’d seen a photo. So I kept my eye out for one at a decent price.  We were at the Antique Mall in St. Jacob’s and I saw this one.  Saw several actually at widely varying prices!

This vase stands about 7 inches high and has an obvious ruffled edge.  The dancing figures on the front are “Nymphs” I gather.

This piece was produced in the thirties, and I think that I have read that it was produced for a time in the fifties, although I’ve only seen that information referenced once.

Supposedly the colour is black amethyst – you can see the dark purple colour in a strong light.  Not enough sunlight today to see it (I just brought it home yesterday).  Looks just black to me.

It’s kind of neat.  I’m looking forward to putting some bright flowers in it.  The dark colour will set them off nicely.
