My mother-in-law was a lovely, genteel woman who was interested in many art forms and had a number of vintage/antique collections. These stems were hers and they were the first etched glasses that I had ever seen, or at least noted. She had five and I always thought that they were among the most beautiful items I had ever seen. She never used them (and I do not either). They are now mine and I have searched and searched, but have been unable to determine their provenance. They have an exotic ‘oriental’ look to them – flowers, bird and leaves. My son loves these stems and has laid claim to them. I don’t know if the glasses appeal to him, or if it’s the fact that they belonged to his Nana. She has been gone for 7 years now. I thank her for these particular glasses, for her genes in my three wonderful children and for my interest in elegant glass in general.
