The photos absolutely do not do these stems justice. The green is a deep, rich shade. Very pretty.
I bought these on our Florida ramble at Pineapple Pattis in Fort Pierce. (Stop by when you are in the area). I got five. Unfortunately the sixth was chipped. They had sherbert/champagnes too, but I took a pass on them. Now…I am a wee sorry. But we were flying and I didn’t want the bother of packing things up myself, so I didn’t buy them. I did ask about the store’s shipping, but even they said the cost was unreasonable. Anyway – they might still be there!
These pieces were produced from 1927-1940. You don’t see the water goblets online often.
Fostoria’s “Green” is very attractive and these glasses look great on a shelf in my blue hued office.
I have one stem in the plum or orchid color with the exact same Spartan etch on it. I wonder how many were made and what other colors they might have put the Spartan etch on?
Hi – Fostoria put etch #80 – Spartan on the line #5097 in a number of colors including the one that you have – Orchid or Plum. Colors include the Green which I had, Amber and Clear. If there were other colors, I am unaware of them. The 14 year patent for this goblet can be seen in the Elegant and Everyday Glass Forum gallery – http://chataboutdg.com. It is patent #72827-2, patented June 14, 1927 by Frank D. Greenan.
I have no idea how many stems were made in the Orchid. The pattern was entirely discontinued in 1944 but they could have stopped making it in Orchid earlier. Likely there were lots around.
I can’t recall ever seeing any pieces of Fostoria in that shade. I bet yours is a pretty piece.
Thanks for your comment. cheers. d.b.
I have some orchid plates with the same needle etching. May I assume they are Fostoria? Were they part of a larger set?
Hi – thnx for your comment. Replacements.com indicates that Fostoria used this etch on a variety of plates – 8 1/2 inch luncheon, 7 inch salad plates, as well as underplates for other pieces. They call the colour – Plum. Hope this helps.
I’ve only seen this etch on green stemware. Your plates must be very pretty.
Thnx for sharing. cheers. d.b.
