I have been trolling about local MaxSold auctions for awhile but had never bought anything. A set of 6 goblets and the pitcher came up and caught my eye. I normally don’t buy Depression glass but…..they ware attractive and several bids later, they were mine. I only had a 20 minute drive to pick them up. Pretty seamless process – kudos MaxSold. Makes it easy to spend money!
Turns out the pieces were made by Hocking Glass of Lancaster, Ohio, between 1930-1934 (according to a Warman’s Depression Glass Field Guide).
While there have been a few reproductions the original pieces were made in crystal, green, pink and yellow.
The pattern is called Cameo but is also known, for obvious reasons, as ‘Ballerina’ and ‘Dancing Girl’.
The pitcher comes with the ‘roped’ edge as seen here and without.

inI have since verified that it is a piece of Duncan & Miller.

I often see tumblers pressed in the honeycombed Georgian pattern. A number of companies produced these tumblers and it is far beyond my ability to recognize whose is what.
I came across this pitcher recently and was struck by its rich colour. I have never before seen a pitcher in this pattern.
I haven’t had any luck identifying it, but have seen a similar item online, in a different colour, identified as a piece by Duncan & Miller. Would love to know definitively, if anyone has any info.
