Amberina Centre handled Server (2)Last Saturday we took a drive out to the Orono Antiques Street Festival.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day to be out wandering.  Lots of folks out shopping.

I only bought two items, and one of them was a piece of linen and the other was another centre handle server (not yet photographed).

I bought this server recently, although I can’t recall where I got it.  I have been in and out of antique stores and thrift shops alot in the last couple of weeks. Likely at St. Jacobs Antiques Market as I know I had a box full last weekend.Amberina Centre handled Server (5)

In any event I have quite a number of these servers.  I know that ‘folks in the know’ can often recognize the manufacturer by the shape of the handle.  I am NOT one of those folk but I haven’t yet made any serious attempt to figure out an ID.

I don’t know why I pick up these servers as I rarely use them.  But….this one has such a bright colour that you can’t help but look at it.  Makes a table look cheery.

Unknown Czech Decanter (1)Some time ago I was watching a piece on ebay that was very similar to this one.  I went back and forth on buying it.  For some reason I was really attracted to the photos.  In the end I didn’t buy it.  I didn’t need it, and I thought, from experience, that it would be difficult to eventually resell.

A few weeks ago I came across this set at Around the Block.  I was taken by the colour and gravitated to it right away.  While I still don’t need it, and I probably won’t be able to resell it eventually, I decided to buy it.  It wasn’t super expensive, it looks gorgeous and I can always gift it to someone.

The colour is very rich and the camera (a/k/a the photographer – me) doesn’t really do it justice.  This photo doesn’t show the richness of the red.  I took the close-up to give a better sense.  Still there is alot of ‘brown’ in the shade and I am sure that there is an appropriate name for this tint – cognac?  Maybe too brown.  Unknown Czech Decanter (2)

There is a label that says “Made in Czechoslovakia” but other than that, I likely will never know much about this pretty set.

Viking Ruby Jar (4)It is always handy when the label is still attached to an item.  I wouldn’t have guessed the manufacturer of this jar otherwise.

Don’t know if it was intended to be a candy jar, but it is a good size for that.  Also handy for cotton balls, Q-tips, etc….or just pretty for display.

The shape of the jar, the details of the lid make this attractive.  Also interesting is the yellow tint of the lid when exposed to light.Viking Ruby Jar (3)
