Hobnail LampIsn’t this cute?  We bought this a couple summers ago when visiting my mom in Fort Erie.

The most difficult task was to find a decent lamp shade with the piece that fits onto the bulb.  You can find them, but generally they are not in the greatest shape.

I bought this shade recently at a thrift shop.  It was the right shape and colour, but it was soiled.  I decided to throw it into the clothes washer on the delicate setting.  If I had a dishwasher I would definitely have used that.Hobnail Lamp (2)

In any event, the trim along the edges came out a little worn, but it cleaned right up.

I don’t know how old this lamp is and whether it fits the definition of milk glass…but I think this is cute.  I like the way it looks against the blue wall of my home office.

Colony Harvest Goblet – Indiana Glass

012If you have never visited the Indiana Glass/Carnival Heaven website in search of information on the Indiana Glass, then stop by.  They provide a wealth of photos and history.  They sell a CD-ROM, which I have, with broad set of reference material.
I found this goblet there.  These are common and I normally wouldn’t pick them up as they aren’t to my taste, but one of my daughter friend likes milk glass and I thought she might enjoy them.
From Carnival Heaven I learned that the molds for the “Harvest” line were created in the 1950s.  The line is quite extensive.  The milk glass items were called “Colony Harvest” and they were produced during the 1950s and 1960s.
The items were trademarked Lancaster Colony Corporation and were never sold under the Indiana Glass moniker.
According to Indiana Glass/Carnival Heaven:
“The “Colony Harvest” pattern was obtained most often through the redemption of S & H green stamps in the midwestern states. You received a stamp for each $1.00 you spent and when a book of 300 or so was filled, you could redeem it for merchandise.”
I remember these stamps from back in the 1960s.  I don’t know if they had the same name in Canada or not.  I’ll have to ask my mom!

Westmoreland Milk Glass Vase – Beaded Grape – Line 1884

Westmoreland vase (4)Sometimes I forget that I have hard copy glass references.  I was busily searching for the name of this pattern online, with no luck, when I had an aha moment.  Aha! I have a Westmoreland reference book.  Lo and behold there was my vase in living black and white.

This vase combines the grape details of Westmoreland’s popular Panel and Grape pattern (line 1881) and the beaded edge of the Beaded Edge (line 22) pattern. You can see the one edge in the photo.

It was likely manufactured in the 1950s or 1960s.

Pieces also came with coloured decorations.  I’ve not knowingly observed one in the flesh, but from the photos I have seen, I actually prefer the unpainted pieces like this one.
